Today, we honor the life and legacy of Dr. Glenn Lubash, a visionary physician, compassionate healer, and one of the founding partners of Renal Medicine Associates who recently passed.

On July 1, 1973, Dr. Glenn Lubash and Dr. Richard Cronin established Renal Medicine Associates (RMA), creating New Mexico's first nephrology group practice. At a time when nephrology was still a young specialty and dialysis treatment was just beginning to transform patient care; Dr. Lubash saw what was possible. His vision, determination, and unwavering commitment to patients helped lay the foundation for kidney care in our state.

Born in Hoboken, New Jersey, Dr. Lubash always considered himself a New Yorker at heart. His lifelong passion for science led him to Columbia University, where he completed his undergraduate education, medical school, and specialty training in internal medicine and nephrology. His pursuit of knowledge took him across the world to Guy's Hospital in London, where he conducted renal research and built lifelong professional friendships that reflected his curiosity and respect within the international medical community.

When Dr. Lubash arrived in New Mexico in 1972 to lead the Department of Nephrology at the University of New Mexico, he recognized an urgent need for specialized kidney care. Alongside Dr. Richard Cronin, he not only founded RMA but also helped establish New Mexico Artificial Kidney Center (NMAKC)—the state's first free-standing dialysis center outside of a hospital. What seemed like an ambitious dream at the time became a turning point in the care of patients with kidney disease across New Mexico.

Those who knew Dr. Lubash remember far more than his remarkable accomplishments. They remember his integrity, his quiet determination, his kindness, and the genuine compassion he showed every patient. He believed that medicine was not only about treating disease but about caring for people with dignity, respect, and hope.

More than five decades later, his vision continues to guide everything we do.

From those humble beginnings in 1973, Renal Medicine Associates has grown into the largest independent nephrology practice in New Mexico, providing comprehensive kidney care to communities across the state. Building upon the vision and legacy of its founders, RMA continues to serve thousands of New Mexicans with comprehensive kidney care. Our services include chronic kidney disease management, hypertension care, treatment of glomerular diseases, dialysis, kidney transplantation, kidney stone prevention, and advanced renal therapies.

Dr. Lubash’s legacy lives on through our physicians, advanced practice providers, nurses, and staff who continue his mission of delivering compassionate, innovative, and exceptional kidney care. We remain committed to advancing kidney health through patient care, education, research, dialysis services, transplant partnerships, vascular access care, and outreach programs that serve communities throughout New Mexico.

Dr. Lubash's impact cannot be measured only by the practice he helped build, but by the countless lives he changed, the physicians he inspired, and the standard of excellence he set for generations to follow.

We are forever grateful for his leadership, his vision, and the legacy he leaves behind.

Thank you, Dr. Glenn Lubash.

RMA and the New Mexico Community

Renal Medicine Associates participated the 2025 Kewa Pueblo Corporation Health Fair, which took place October 17th at the Santo Domingo Health Center.  RMA providers, Lisa Payant, PA-C and Sonam Kundeling, MD  have partnered with Santo Domingo Pueblo to offer a Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) Clinic twice a month at the pueblo’s health center.  The health fair gave our providers and staff an opportunity to reach out to members of the Santo Domingo community  to raise CKD awareness.
